The photo that I admire is one of Ansel Adams. It is a photo that many people have come to enjoy and find beautiful. I find it most beautiful for its sense of persuasiveness. Not only does it show the wilderness as being a peaceful and reflective place, but the lack of colour seems to make it even more intriguing. For me, I have have a connection to the photo, since its beauty led me to eventually summiting half dome.
The photo that I chose from my own body of work is one of Chicago at dusk. It was taken a few years ago, when I was downtown at the John Hancock Centre. Many of my photographs are of buildings and landscapes- perhaps this is merely a spillover from my Architecture major. Another habit of mine is to take photos in low lighting conditions. I enjoy the challenge of capturing low light, as well as the final product, which often contains a vibrant and illuminating quality. For me, this photo also captures a harmonal balance with colour. The bright orange of the city lights contrasts with the blue sky and the reflection that is caught in the buildings. Lake Shore Drive (the major road that shown in this photo) also rund diagonally through the photo, creating a sense of movement.
